Mount Airy Pickleball Club

Mission Statement
The Mount Airy Pickleball Club’s mission is:

To promote pickleball through education, recreational play, and competitive tournaments for residents and visitors as well as providing opportunities for social activities. Our overall theme is to encourage sportsmanship, camaraderie, safe play, fun & exercise.

Objectives:

To provide opportunities for skill development
To organize structured play
To conduct fundraising events, as needed
To promote social events To advocate for new and improved playing facilities
To act as an advisory board to Mount Airy Parks & Recreation (MAPR) in the operation of Riverside Park courts and Reeves Community Center courts
To interact with other parties, as needed
To communicate club news via social media, email, website, and Team Reach app

Mount Airy Pickleball Club ByLaws

ARTICLE 1

Name

The name of the organization shall be Mount Airy Pickleball Club (MAPC), and referred to as the Club, or MAPC.

ARTICLE 2

Membership/Dues/Meetings MAPC membership is open to all persons who agree to abide by the Bylaws as amended and the rules and regulations relating to this Club. Membership is non-restrictive although some club events and activities may be restricted to members only. Membership shall be terminated by voluntary withdrawal, nonpayment of dues, conduct detrimental to the MAPC, or other violation of published rules, guidelines and regulations. The length of the ban or termination shall be decided by the club officers.

Benefits of being a member:

  • Being part of a welcoming pickleball community that encourages people of all abilities to play, socialize, and have fun. • Learning from other members regarding court protocol, usage, and etiquette.
  • Being able to participate in Club social events throughout the year. Club members will be given a 48-hour time period for early tournament and clinic registration. Others can register after this reserved time expires, provided slots are still available.
  • Supporting the organization that advocates for new courts, court improvements, and supporting local charities.

Dues

  • Mount Airy Pickleball Club Members (“Members”) will pay annual dues as established by the Officers.
  • Annual dues will be collected from January 1 to December 31 for the current calendar year.
  • A Membership Drive will be held the month of January, however new members may join at any time during the year. The cost to join will remain the same throughout the entire year.
  • Membership dues may be expended for the purchase of balls, event support, court upgrades/construction, and other expenses to facilitate the Club’s mission statement.

Meetings

  • General Club meetings shall be held at a schedule determined by the officers, if deemed necessary.

ARTICLE 3

Officers

Any member in good standing is eligible for nomination and for election. A simple majority vote of the voting members shall elect the officers.

  • Officers will serve for two years beginning January 1st through December 31st.
  • The Officers of MAPC shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. All Officers shall perform the duties required of such offices as described in these Bylaws.
  • A vacancy of the current officers may be filled for the remainder of the term by appointment of the President, subject to approval of the remaining officers.

Elections

  • Current officers shall solicit candidates for upcoming elections beginning November 1. Descriptions of each position will be included in the solicitation of candidates. Nominations close by November 30. The slate of candidates and their desired positions (the ballot) will then be presented to the general membership the first week of December to allow for a 2-week voting period. Members will vote privately by digital, or paper ballot for contested positions. Election results will be tallied by the current officers by the last week of December and results will be announced. New officers will begin their term of service January 1.
  • If an office is uncontested, no elections will be held for that position. In such cases, it will be the responsibility of the current officers to nominate and appointment individuals to fill those roles.
  • There is no limit to the number of terms a board member may serve.

Indemnity of Officers: MAPC will indemnify an individual because s/he is or was an officer, against liability incurred to the fullest extent of the law.

President
Shall schedule meetings, prepare the agenda for meetings, and preside at meetings of MAPC. Oversee the general operations, including those delegated to other individuals and/or committees. Serve as Club liaison with city officials, MAPR, RCC, USA Pickleball Association (USAPA), and club members.

Vice-President
Shall be prepared to perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President or when called upon to do so.

Secretary
Shall keep minutes of all meetings and provide a copy of those minutes to all Officers after the meeting. Any Member may have a copy upon request.

Treasurer
Shall manage and track all funds of the MAPC. Shall pay all bills and obtain receipts for the same. The Treasurer shall provide financial reports at all scheduled meetings, and a year-end financial report.

ARTICLE 4

Committee Chairpersons The Officers shall determine specific committees deemed necessary, based on the needs of the Club. Once a committee is formed, they shall appoint their Committee Chairperson, which will be approved by the Officers. These Members shall perform duties as designated and shall report to the President.

ARTICLE 5

Club Code of Conduct and Play
The Mount Airy Pickleball Club subscribes to the same Code of Conduct as the USAPA in order to promote the mission of the Club, model good behavior, display respect and create a community of mutual respect. Each member of the MAPC shall abide by the following conditions: Pay his or her membership dues, fees, and special event charges when due. Abide by all rules and best practices of the Club. Conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner.

ARTICLE AMMENDMENTS

A majority vote by the Officers is required to amend the Bylaws.

ARTICLE CLUB DISSOLUTION

If the club disbands, all club assets will be disposed of as follows: All pickleball court improvements paid for by the club such as shade screens, benches etc. shall remain at the courts and become property of Mount Airy Parks & Recreation. All monies in the club’s treasury shall be donated to Reeves Community Center Foundation.
